6,6-Dimethyl-5,7-dioxaspiro[2.5]octan-4,8-dione-d4 is a labelled analogue of 6,6-Dimethyl-5,7-dioxaspiro[2.5]octan-4,8-dione (D471415), which is used as a reagent to synthesize Bis-benzimidazoles, compounds that act as inhibitors of Type II Dihydrofolate reductase (an enzyme that is produced by bacteria in response to Trimethoprim [T795615]as a defense mechanism). 6,6-Dimethyl-5,7-dioxaspiro[2.5]octan-4,8-dione-d4 is also an intermediate in synthesizing 2-(Hydroxymethyl)butanoic-d5 Acid (H946457), which is used as a substrate to study the activity of 2-methyl-3hydroxybutyryl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency in patients and carriers.
