Divinyl Sulfone Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Chemical Properties
colourless liquid
Uses
Divinyl sulfone acts as a cross-linking reagent for agarose gels. It is a monomer, which is used in the production of polymers with diols, urea and malonic esters. Further, it serves as a shrinkage control agent in textiles. In addition to this, it is used in the preparation of large class of fiber-reactive dyestuffs.
Definition
ChEBI: A sulfone compound having two S-vinyl substituents.
General Description
Clear colorless liquid.
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
Divinyl sulphone may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. Can react exothermically with reducing agents (such as alkali metals and hydrides) to release gaseous hydrogen or hydrogen sulfide. May react exothermically with both acids and bases. May undergo exothermic polymerization iIn the presence of various catalysts (such as acids) or initiators.
Health Hazard
ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: Divinyl sulphone may be corrosive.
Fire Hazard
Divinyl sulphone is combustible.
