Bromhexine Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Description
Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent that decreases sputum thickness. In order to enable the patient to breathe freely and deeply, it is used to treat conditions characterized by abnormal mucus secretion, such as the common cold, respiratory tract infections and influenza. Because of the elevated risk of serious side effects, it should be used with caution in patients who have a history of gastric ulcers. Bromhexine improves mucus transport by lowering mucus viscosity and stimulating the ciliated epithelial layer (mucociliary clearance). Cough is relieved and the expectoration is made easier by secretolytic and secretomotor effects in the bronchial tract.
Uses
Bromhexine is a drug that aids the body's mucus-clearing processes in the respiratory tract. It is used to relieve chest congestion. The medication belongs to a class of drugs called mucolytics, which break down mucus to make it easier to cough up. As a result, to treat cough, this medication is added to cough syrups. In order to prevent chest congestion, mucus in the respiratory tract should be expelled on a regular basis. Bromhexine can help the body's natural mechanisms to remove inflammation by expelling mucus. Bromhexine is a mucolytic.
Mechanism of action
Bromhexine works by lowering mucous viscosity. It will be accompanied by a rise in lysosomal activity. The hydrolysis of acid mucopolysaccharide polymers will be accelerated if the lysosomal activity is increased. This can lead to normal mucus viscosity.
