FLUENETIL Chemical Properties,Uses,Production

Description

Fluenetil is a crystalline solid. Molecularweight=258.31. Hazard Identification (based on NFPA-704 M Rating System): Health 3, Flammability 1,Reactivity 0.

Chemical Properties

Fluenetil is a crystalline solid.

Uses

Fluenetil is a fluenethyl acaricide.

Definition

ChEBI: Fluenetil is a member of biphenyls.

General Description

Solid. Formerly used as an acaricide and insecticide. No longer made. Not registered as a pesticide in the U.S.

Air & Water Reactions

Probably water insoluble.

Reactivity Profile

FLUENETIL is a fluorinated ester. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.

Health Hazard

Fluenitil is highly toxic to mammals.

Potential Exposure

This material has been used as an acaricide and insecticide. Its main use was as a dormant spray for orchard fruit. It is no longer made or registered as a pesticide in the U.S.

First aid

If this chemical gets into the eyes, remove anycontact lenses at once and irrigate immediately for at least15 min, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention immediately. If this chemical contacts theskin, remove contaminated clothing and wash immediately with soap and water. Speed in removing material from skinis of extreme importance. Seek medical attention immediately. If this chemical has been inhaled, remove from exposure, begin rescue breathing (using universal precautions, including resuscitation mask) if breathing has stopped andCPR if heart action has stopped. Transfer promptly to amedical facility. When this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention. Give large quantities of water andinduce vomiting. Do not make an unconscious personvomit. Effects may be delayed; keep victim underobservation.

storage

Color Code—Blue: Health Hazard/Poison: Storein a secure poison location. Prior to working with thischemical you should be trained on its proper handling andstorage. Store in tightly closed containers in a cool, wellventilated area away from nitrates and moisture.

Shipping

UN2588 Pesticides, solid, toxic, Hazard Class: 6.1; Labels: 6.1-Poisonous materials, Technical Name Required. UN2811 Toxic solids, organic, n.o.s., Hazard Class: 6.1; Labels: 6.1-Poisonous materials, Technical Name Required.

Incompatibilities

Incompatible with oxidizers (chlorates, nitrates, peroxides, permanganates, perchlorates, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, etc.); contact may cause fires or explo sions. Keep away from alkaline materials, strong bases, strong acids, oxoacids, epoxides. Moisture may cause mate rial to hydrolyze. Compounds of the carboxyl group react with all bases, both inorganic and organic (i.e., amines) releasing substantial heat, water and a salt that may be harmful. Incompatible with arsenic compounds (releases hydrogen cyanide gas), diazo compounds, dithiocarbamates, isocyanates, mercaptans, nitrides, and sulfides (releasing heat, toxic and possibly flammable gases), thiosulfates and dithionites (releasing hydrogen sulfate and oxides of sulfur).

Waste Disposal

In accordance with 40CFR 165 recommendations for the disposal of pesticides and pesticide containers. Must be disposed properly by follow ing package label directions or by contacting your local or federal environmental control agency, or by contacting your regional EPA office.
