TRICHLORONATE Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Uses
Trichloronate is a highly toxic organophosphate insecticide.
Definition
ChEBI: Trichloronat is an organochlorine compound.
General Description
Amber liquid. Used as a non-systemic insecticide. Not sold in the U.S or Canada. Not registered as a pesticide in the U.S.
Reactivity Profile
Organophosphates, such as TRICHLORONATE, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides.
Health Hazard
Material is an organophosphate and toxic effects are due to action on the nervous system. It has high oral toxicity and death can occur in acute poisonings. Delayed neurotoxicity has been reported.
Fire Hazard
When heated to decomposition, TRICHLORONATE emits very toxic fumes of chlorine containing compounds, phosphorus oxides, and sulfur oxides.
Safety Profile
Poison by ingestion and skin contact. Moderately toxic by inhalation. An insecticide. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cl-, POx,, and SOx. See also CHLOROPHENOLS.
