Uses
Anti-Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for:
- immunohistochemical staining at a working dilution of 1:400 using rat brain sections
- immunohistochemical staining of human brain tumor tissue specimens to identify the cells expressing AQP4 (Aquaporin-4)
- immunofluorescence using brain section from mice
Uses
Goat polyclonal anti-GFAP antibody is used to tag glial fibrillary acidic protein for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to determine the roles of glial fibrillary acidic protein in cell:cell communications, mitosis and cell structure. Anti-GFAP has proven a valuable tool for use in immunocytochemical localization of GFAP in normal central nervous system tissue, certain tumors and metastases of the glial antigen, as well as for immunofluorescent labeling of cultured mammalian cells.

General Description
The GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) gene encodes an intermediate protein filament-III (50kDa). It is localized particularly to the astrocytes and non-myelinating Schwann cells of the central and peripheral nervous system, respectively.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) is expressed in several glial-related intracranial neoplasms such as astrocytomas and to a variable extent in ependymomas, medulloblastomas, choroid plexus papillomas, gangliogliomas, mixed gliomas, hemangioblastomas, pineocytomas, pineoblastomas, pituitary adenomas, retinoblastomas, oligodendrogliomas and in a small minority of peripheral nerve sheath tumors (schwannomas and neurofibromas). It may also be found in pleomorphic adenomas and ovarian and testicular teratomas.
