Barium Hypophosphate Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Description
Barium Magnesium hypophosphate has the molecular
formula of Ba2P2O4 and the molecular weight of
432.8235 g/mol. It can be formed by an aqueous solution
of hypophosphorus acid and a soluble barium salt:
2BaCl2 (aq) +H4P2O4 (aq) ? Ba2P2O4 (solid)
+ 2HCl (aq)
The barium salt solution is added until no precipitate
results. Alternatively, sodium hypophosphate can be
used to produce a basic solution instead of acidic. The
basic product apparently is anhydrous since no record
of a hydrate is known. The acidic product is a barium
hydrogen hypophosphate, BaH2P2O6·2H2O. This salt
is slightly soluble in water at 1.1 g/100 ml at 20°C.
The basic salt is much less soluble at 0.00067 g/100 ml.
Neither of these salts have a CAS number.
The crystal structure of the anhydrate or the
hydrates has not been determined. The thermal decomposition
of either of these two salts has not been
determined.
