The TeCl4 solution is mixed with aqueous KCl solution in a ratio not exceeding one mole of KCl per mole of TeCl4; precipitation should not be allowed to occur. The precipitation procedure corresponds to that for (NH4)2TeCl6. Since the K salt is considerably more sensitive to atmospheric moisture than the NH4 salt, it is best to dry it in the apparatus described for the preparation of hexachlorotitanium salts.
