Coenzyme A functions as an acyl group carrier, acetyl-CoA. Hexanoyl CoA is involved in fatty acid oxidation, lipid biosynthesis, and ceramide formation. Ghrelin O-acyltransferase (GOAT) has a preference for n-hexanoyl-CoA over n-octanoyl-CoA as an acyl donor.
