Strontium Iodate can be prepared by the reaction of iodic acid upon the carbonate:SrCO3＋2HIO3→Sr(IO3)2＋CO2＋H2O
The product is either a monohydrate or a hexahydrate (like the calcium homologue).

Strontium iodate monohydrate, Sr(IO3)2·H2O has the solubility product of 3.77×10-7 while the value of strontium iodate hexahydrate, Sr(IO3)2·6H2O, is 4.55×10-7.The hexahydrate is a crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water but is soluble in dilute nitric acid where it forms the nitrate plus iodine.
