| N-ACETYLPROCAINAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE Usage And Synthesis |
Description | Acecainide, a main metabolite of procainamide,
is a class I a antiarrhythmic agent
. | Chemical Properties | yellow-beige crystalline powder | Uses | N-Acetylprocainamide Hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent and a metabolite of Procainamide (P755130). Procainamide is a drug used for both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias. For example, it can be used to convert new-onset atrial fibrillation, though it is suboptimal for this purpose. It can also be used to treat Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome by prolonging the refractory period of the accessory pathway. | Uses | Cardiac depressant (anti-arrhythmic). | General Description | The GLC assay procedure was developed to study the stability of N-acetylprocainamide hydrochloride (acecainide hydrochloride) in rat feed. | Biochem/physiol Actions | Class III antiarrhythmic. Increases the duration of the action potential by decreasing the delayed outward potassium current, slightly decreasing the calcium current, and slightly depressing the inward rectifier potassium current. This is the active metabolite of procainamide that does not induce systemic lupus erythematosus. |
