| Fluorescent Brightener 28 Usage And Synthesis |
Uses | Fluorescent brightener 28 (CAS# 4193-55-9) is a fluorescent whitening agent used for textiles. | Definition | ChEBI: Calcofluor White is an organic sodium salt. It contains a 4,4'-bis({4-anilino-6-[bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl}amino)stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate. | Biological Activity | The extended molecule of Calcofluor white M2R binds to cellulose but does not enter living cells, and therefore can be used to visualize plant tissues and viable cells. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation to emit blue light and exhibits enhanced fluorescence when bound to chitin. | Safety Profile | Poison by ingestion andintraperitoneal routes. Moderately toxic by subcutaneousroute. An eye irritant. Whenheated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes ofNOx, Na2O, and SOx. |
