Description：Extracellular Death Factor是对称的线性的五肽,其氨基酸序列为H-Asn-Asn-Trp-Asn-Asn-OH(NNWNN) 。 每个EDF的5个氨基酸的对称分布，而且肽链末端的天冬酰胺对于mazEF（细菌的一种染色体）介导的杀伤活性非常重要，EDF是唯一可以启动mazEF介导的细胞死亡的单独的信号分子。EDF是目前发现的唯一参与大肠杆菌群体感应的单独信号分子，而且EDF也是与革兰阳性菌群体感应肽有关的一种特殊类型的分子 。
Extracellar Death Factor is a symmetrical linear pentapeptide with an amino acid sequence of H-Asn Asn Trp Asn Asn OH (NNWNN). The symmetrical distribution of 5 amino acids in each EDF, and the asparagine at the end of the peptide chain is crucial for mazEF (a type of chromosome in bacteria) mediated killing activity. EDF is the only single signaling molecule that can initiate mazEF mediated cell death. EDF is currently the only single signaling molecule found to be involved in quorum sensing in Escherichia coli, and it is also a special type of molecule related to gram-positive bacterial quorum sensing peptides.
