Preparation of tert-butyl (S)-2-((ethylthio)carbonyl)-5-oxopyrrolidine-1-carboxylate

S-Ethyl (S)-5-oxopyrrolidine-2-carbothioate (6 g, 34.6 mmol) was dissolved in MeCN (35 mL) in an ice bath, and then Boc2O (8.28 mL, 35.0 mmol) and DMAP (470 mg, 3.46 mmol) were added successively.
The reaction solution was warmed up to room temperature slowly, and stirred at this temperature for 2 hours.
The reaction solution was added with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution (20 mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL * 2).
The organic phase was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure.
The residue was subjected to column chromatography to obtain the title compound S-ethyl (S)-5-oxopyrrolidine-2-carbothioate (7.3 g, 77%).
