Synthesis of 13
A mixture of 12 (10.0 g, 50.4 mmol) in toluene (140 mL) was heated at 70 °C with magnetic stirring. To the hot colorless solution, 1,3-dibromopropane (20.6 mL, 216 mmol) was added over 15 minutes, and then the mixture was stirred at 110 °C for 4 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, and filtered. The filtrate was washed with n-hexane and dried under reduced pressure to give compound 13 (15.2 g, crude 79%) as yellow solids.
