5. Experimental procedure for preparation of various uronic methyl esters (2a-2l) using silica supported sulphuric acid
General procedure: To a solution of uronic acid (0.2 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) in methanol (0.4 mmol, 2 equiv.) was added silica supported sulphuric acid (30 mg, 0.15 mmol) and stirred until the completion of reaction. The reaction mixture was then filtered and rinsed using methanol. The filtrate was neutralised with 0.5 mL of Et3N and was concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude residue was further purified by column chromatography (SiO2:100-200 mesh) to obtain the desired product using ethyl acetate/hexane as an eluent.
