Yield: 91%

Reaction Conditions:

with dihydrogen peroxide;methyltrioxorhenium(VII) in dichloromethane;water at 20; for 3 h;

Steps:

1
Example 1: Oxidation of the pyridines To a solution of 2,3, 5-colidine (1) (2 g, 0. 016 mol) in dichloromethane (10 ml) was added hydrogen peroxide 30% (5 eq. ) and methyltrioxorhenium (MTO) (1.5% mol). After 3 hours in stirring at room temperature, it was added a aqueous solution of NaHS03 (10 ml). The two phases were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane (3x50 ml). The organic phases were dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and the solvent was evaporated, yielding a solid (= 91%).
