Steps:

39.1 The first step: the preparation of 2-(3-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)acetonitrile

The raw material methyl 3-(cyanomethyl)benzoate (500mg, 2.85mmol, 1eq.) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (5mL), methanol (183mg, 5.71mmol, 2eq.) was added to the above mixed solution, and then the boron Lithium hydride (124 mg, 5.71 mmol, 2 eq.) was slowly added to the above mixed solution, and the reaction solution was stirred at 80° C. for 3 h. TLC detected the completion of the reaction, added aqueous hydrochloric acid, adjusted pH to 6, extracted with ethyl acetate (20 mL x 2), combined the organic phases, washed with saturated brine (20 mL x 2), then dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, concentrated , the target compound (400 mg, 95.2%) was obtained.
