Synthesis of 2,7-dibromofluorenone (scheme 1)This compound was prepared following the procedure reported in the literature {Tetrahedron 2006, 62, 3355- 3361)."A mixture of 2,7-dibromofluorene (10.0 g, 30.9 mmol) and CrO3 (12 g, 0.12 mol) suspended in 250 mL acetic acid, and stirred at room temperature for 12 h. The resulting yellow precipitate was collected by suction filtration, washed with water thoroughly, and dried under vacuum to provide the product as yellow solid (10.1 g, 98% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDC13)7.77 (s, 2H), 7.63 (d, 2H, J = 8.0 Hz), 7.39 (d, 2H, J = 8.0 Hz) .
