b 2-Bromo-2-methylpropanamide To a vigorously stirred solution of 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoyl bromide (11 mL) in light petroleum ether (250 mL) at 0 ° C. was added in portions aqueous ammonia (50 mL). Stirring was continued for a further 30 min, and the resulting precipitate was collected and washed with water (2*50 mL) to give the title compound as a white solid (14.1 g, 96%) which was directly used in the next step without purification.
