Synthesis of 2-butylindene Procedure as in example I.1 except with: 2.4 grams of magnesium, 14.0 grams of 1-bromobutane, 13.3 grams of 2-indanone, solvent diethylether. Water and hydrochloric acid were added after reaction. The organic layer was separated from the water layer, which was washed three times with diethylether, and the combined organic layers were evaporated, the residue being mixed with toluene (150 ml). The mixture was refluxed with concentrated sulphuric acid (4 drops). After reacting, the mixture was washed with water (two times 50 ml), evaporated and purified through a silica column. Yield: 7.0 grams of 2-butylindene (41%).
