Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1:2-fluorophenol with sodium hydride in N,N-dimethyl-formamide at 0 - 20; for 1.5 h;
Stage #2:methyl iodide in N,N-dimethyl-formamide for 16 h;

D 1. 1 -Fluoro-2-methoxy-benzeneTo a slurry of NaH (28.8g, O.όOmol) in dry DMF (500ml) at 0 ⁰C was added 2-fluoro phenol (5Og, 0.446mol) slowly over a period of 30min and stirred for Ih at room EPO temperature. To this was added methyl iodide (19Og, 1.33mol) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 16h under nitrogen and poured into ice-water (1.5L). The product was extracted with ethyl acetate (2 x 200ml), washed with water, brine and dried. The solvent was removed under vacuum to afford 55g (98%) of the title compound.
