3synthesis methods
-

Yield:21404-94-4 100%

Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1: 2-methyl-2-phenylpropionitrilewith dimethylsulfide borane complex in tetrahydrofuran at 0 - 20; for 16 h;
Stage #2: with hydrogenchloride in diethyl ether;water at 20; for 0.0833333 h;

Steps:

2-Methyl-2-phenylpropan-1-amine (32).

To a solution of 2-methyl-2-phenylpropanenitrile (0.15 ml, 1 mmol) in THF (4 ml) was added 2 M BH3.Me2S in THF solution (0.5 ml) in an ice-water bath. The reaction was raised to room temperature and stirred for 16 h. The reaction mixture was then carefully quenched with methanol and solvent was removed in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in diethyl ether and treated with 2 M HCl in diethyl ether. The precipitate was filtered and washed repeatedly with diethyl ether to give the product as white solid (0.19 g, quant.). 1H NMR (300MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.37-7.48 (m, 4H), 7.26-7.32 (m, 1H), 3.18 (s, 2H), 1.44 (s, 6H). MS (ESI) m/z [M+H]+ calcd: 150.1; found: 150.2.
