94.2; 95.2 Step 2: Preparation of 2-piperazin-1-ylacetic acid
A mixture of tert-butyl 4-(2-tert-butoxy-2-oxo-ethyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (1.0 g, 3.3 mmol) and a solution of HCl. in MeOH ( 1 .0 M, 15 mL) was stirred at rt for 12 hrs. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in MeOH ( 10 mL), then treated with base resin and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give 2-piperazin-1-ylacetic acid (350 mg) as a white solid.
