Steps:

1 (S)-2-amino-3-(lH-indol-3-yl)-N-methylpropanamide

A solution of (S)-methyl 2-amino-3-(lH-indol-3-yl)propanoate (254 mg, 1.0 mmol) and methylamine (5 niL, 10 mmol) in ethanol (5 mL) was heated at 40 °C for 48 hours. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give (S)-2-amino-3-(lH-indol-3-yl)-N-methylpropanamide (130 mg) as a yellow solid. MS (ESI) m/z 218.1 [M + H]⁺
