Preparation of Side-chain BKc):; Intermediate BKa): (2S,5R)-1 -benzyl-2,5-dimethylpiperazine; To a solution of starting material (3.00 g, 9.85 mmol) in CH₂CI₂ (100 mL) was added 4 N HCI in 1 ,4-dioxane (20 mL). The solution was stirred for 1 hour, at which time the volatiles were removed in vacuo to yield the desired product as a white solid in quantitative yield. Mass Spectrum: Calcd for Ci₃H₂iN₂ (M+H): 205. Found: 205.
