To a solution of methyl 3-acetamidothiQphetie~2-caiboxyiate (0.674 g, 3.47 mmol) in MeOH (20 mL) at RT was added NaOH (0.416 g, 10.4 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 50°C for 16 h then concentrated. 1N HC1 was added and the resulting solid was filtered and dried to give 3 -acetamidothi ophene-2-carboxyii c acid (0.642 g, 88% yield) as a solid. MS (ESI) m/z 186.2 [M+H]⁺.
