N-methylaniline (1.93 g, 10.0 mmol) represented by the formula 2-1 was dissolved in dichloromethane (20 mL) at 0 °C represented by the formula 3-1 3-chloropropionyl chloride (2.12 g, 19.8 mmol) and triethylamine (1.82 mL, 18.0 mmol) was added thereto, The reaction was carried out at room temperature with stirring for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, Dichloromethane (200 mL) was added and washed with brine (200 mL) The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The concentrated mixture was extracted with hexane/ethyl acetate (3/1, v/v) to obtain the title compound (3.50 g, yield 98%) as colorless oil.
