Preparation 30; 4-hydroxy-2-fluoro-dihydro-ethyl cinnamate; Step A; 3-fluorobenzyhenol; Benzyl bromide (2.9 mL, 24. 08 mmol) is added to a suspension of 3-fluorophenol (3.0 g, 26.76 mmol) and K2CO3 (4.0 g, 28.94 mmol) in DMF (30 mL), and the mixture is stirred at r. t. for 5 h. It is acidified with diluted HC1 (1M) and partitioned between EtOAc and H20. The organic layer is dried, filtered and concentrated, and the product is purified by flash chromatography on Si02 (3% EtOAc/hexanes) to afford 4.7 g of the title compound (87%, colorless oil).
