To a solution of 4-bromo-3,5-dimethylaniline (10 g, 50.0 mmol) in CH₂CI₂(150 mL) was added trifluoroacetic anhydride (14.70 g, 70.0 mmol) at 0 °C. The reaction was stirred at 0 °C for 2h and quenched with NaHCO₃solution. The mixture was extracted with CH₂Cl₂(2 x 150 mL) and the organic layers were combined, washed with NaHCO₃solution, washed with brine (80 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, the solids were removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford N -(4-bromo-3,5-dimethylphenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (14 g, 90%) as a gray solid. LC-MS (ESI, m/z): 296 [M+H]⁺.
