General procedure: To a solution of hydroxybenzaldehyde (1 mol) in 100 mL of DMF was added anhyd K2CO3 (19.8 g, 1.0 mol) and triethylene glycol ditosylate (50 mmol). After being stirred, the reaction mixture was stirred under reflux for about 16 h, and the resulting solution was partially concentrated in vacuum and poured into 500 mL of water; the solid that separated was recrystallized from MeOH.
