To a solution of ie f-butyl 3-cyano-3-phenylpropanoate A61 (231 mg, 1 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added LiAIH4 (1 M solution in THF, 2.0 mL, 2.0 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. The mixture was diluted with water, extracted with EtOAc (100 mL) and the organic layer was washed with water, dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (115 mg, 60%) as a yellow oil. LCMS -A (ES- API): Rt 0.322 min, m/z 166.1 [M+H]+.
