E E. 2-Methylbenzo[d]thiazol-4-ol

A mixture of 4-methoxy-2-methylbenzo[d]thiazole (Intermediate 133D) (4.00 g, 16.4 mmol) and pyridine hydrochloride (18.90 g, 164 mmol) was heated to 150 °C. After 1 h, the reaction was cooled and diluted with ice water (100 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (2 X 150 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated to give the title compound (3.00 g, 75%) as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCI3) δ 2.81 (s, 3 H), 6.94-6.98 (m, 1 H), 7.23-7.28 (m, 1 H), 7.31 -7.36 (m, 1 H); LC-MS (LC- ES) M+H = 166.
