Steps:
X-26 (4-Bromobenzyl)(methyl)sulfane
(4-Bromobenzyl)(methyl)sulfane To a solution of 1 -bromo-4-(bromomethyl)benzene (1 .25 g, 5 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL) was added triethylamine (1 .1 g, 10 mmol) at 0°C and the reaction was stirred overnight before was quenched with water (20 mL). The resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 χ 20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography eluting with ethyl acetate : petroleum ether = 1 :20 to afford (4-bromobenzyl)(methyl)sulfane (840 mg, 77%) as a colorless oil. GCMS {El): m/z = 216, 218 [M]. 1 H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCI3): δ = 1 .99 (s, 3H), 3.63 (s, 3H), 7.17-7.20 (d, 2H, J = 6 Hz), 7.43-7.46 (d, 2H, J = 6 Hz).
