4.1.3. General procedure for the preparation of the 4-chloro-2-phenylquinazoline derivatives 8-14

General procedure: The corresponding 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one derivative1-7 (10 mmol) was added to phosphorous trichloride (30 mL,0.32 mol) and stirred for 10 min at room temperature. The mixturewas then refluxed for 4e8 h and the reaction monitored by TLC.After completion of the reaction, excess POCl3 was removed underreduced pressure and 50 mL ice water added. Subsequently, 50 mLDCM was added while stirring and the pH of the mixture slowlyadjusted to 7 with 25% ammonium solution. The organic phase wascollected, with a separatory funnel, washed with 50 mL brine anddried under MgSO4. The solvent was removed under reducedpressure and the obtained solid recrystallized from isopropanol.
