5 Example 5: Preparation of 4-(fluoromethyl)benzaldehyde

In a 100ml single-necked flask, 2.72g (20mmol) of 4-(hydroxymethyl)benzaldehyde (formula I, R=CHO), 0.74g (20mmol) of ammonium fluoride, 6.06g (60mmol) of Et ₃ N and 40ml of acetonitrile was stirred at 40°C for 6h in a sulfonyl fluoride atmosphere. After the reaction was completed, 50ml of water was added to dilute it, and then 50ml of ethyl acetate was added for extraction three times. The organic phases were combined, washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. suction filtration, and concentration to obtain 2.44 g of 4-(fluoromethyl)-benzaldehyde with a purity of 97% and a yield of 86%.
