EXAMPLE
[0054] To a solution of phosphorous acid H3P03 (50%, 114.8 g, 700 mmol) in toluene (1.4 L) neopentyiglycol (73.64 g, 700 mmol) was added. The reflux system was equipped with a Dean-Stark trap prefihled with toluene. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 1 8b. The reaction mixture was allowed to cooi down to room temperature. The solution was concentrated under high vacuum to give the expected cyclic neopentyiglycol phosphonate ester at 100% yield. Phosphorus NMR 31P showed a single peak at 2.99 ppm (d).
