1 Preparation of Methyl 5-aminolevulinate Hydrochloride
EXAMPLE 1 Preparation of Methyl 5-aminolevulinate Hydrochloride To a 500 ml glass reactor containing 200 ml methanol, was added 1 g 5-amino-levulinic acid hydrochloride and 1 drop conc. HCl. The reaction mixture was then stirred overnight at 60° C. The progress of the esterification was followed by 1 H-NMR. Excess methanol was removed by distillation, and the product further dried under vacuum at 30-40° C., giving methyl 5-aminolevulinate hydrochloride. The structure was confirmed by 1 H-NMR in DMSO-d6.
