To a solution of 5-bromo-2,4-difluorobenzoic acid (400 mg, 1.688 mmol) in methanol (8.44 mL) was added thionyl chloride (0.493 mL, 6.75 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred at 65 °C for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was poured into 50 mL ice-water and thenpartitioned with ethyl acetate (3 x 30 mL). The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, hexanes) to provide the title compound (0.269 g, 1.05 mmol, 62.3 % yield).
