Intermediate 67-1. Preparation of 4-Oxo-4,5-dihydrofuro[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carbaldehyde

4-Methoxyfuro[3,2-c] (66-1) (2 g,11.2 mmol) was heated to reflux in 1 M HCl (11 mL) for three hours. The reaction was cooled and the solid collected and recrystallized from dioxane to give 4- oxo-4,5-dihydrofuro[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carbaldehyde (67-1) (1.62 g, 9.93 mmol, 89.0 %) as an brown solid. LC/MS (ES+): m/z 164.0 [M + H]⁺
