Reaction Conditions:

Steps:

1 Ethyl 2,4-diphenylthiazole-5-carboxylate

To a flame dried flask cooled under argon was added ethyl 3-oxo-3-phenyl-2-(tosyloxy)propanoate (0.1 grams, 0.276 mmol), benzothioamide (0.038 grams, 0.28 mmol, purchased from Aldrich) and 1 mL of DMF (anhydrous, purchased from Fisher Scientific). The stirring solution was then heated to 60° C. where the reaction remained until it had gone to completion. It was then cooled to room temperature and concentrated. Chromatography using silica gel (hexanes, ethyl acetate (95:5) afforded the desired ethyl 2,4-diphe- nylthiazole-5-carboxylate in 85% yield.
