ethyl 2-(methylthio)-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate synthesis

2synthesis methods
-

Yield:40279-32-1 68%

Reaction Conditions:

with potassium carbonate in N,N-dimethyl-formamide at 23; for 1 h;

Steps:

1 Step 1: Preparation of ethyl 2-(methylsulfanyl)-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate

Into a round bottom flask equipped with a magnetic stir bar was added ethyl 2-chloro-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate (1.0 equiv), DMF (0.9 M), K2CO3 (2 equiv) and sodium methanethiolate (1.2 equiv). The resulting mixture was stirred at 23 °C for 1 h. LC-MS analysis indicated consumption of starting material and formation of product. The resulting mixture was poured into a separatory funnel containing water (10 volumes) and the aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 × 2 volumes). The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title product as a dark yellow solid (68% yield).
