III. Typical procedure for the preparation of 3a-v:
General procedure: Piperidine (21 mg, 30 mol%) was added slowly to a stirred solution of salicylaldehyde (1a, 100 mg, 1 equiv) and ethyl 4,4,4-trichloro-3-oxobutanoate(2, 192 mg, 1 equiv) in toluene (2mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 4 h. After completion of the reaction (TLC), the crude product was subjected to column chromatography purification using silica gel(60:120) provided coumarin 3a as colorless solid.
