Synthesis of (±)-8-Chloro-1-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-3-benzazepine ((±)-1) from 8a by Intramolecular Friedel-Crafts Reaction

Free base of (±)-1 was dissolved in ethylacetate saturated with hydrogen chloride and stirred for 1 h at 0°C,and the precipitated solid was collected by filtration and dried at 30°C under vacuum to provide hydrochloride salt of (±)-1. dH([D6]DMSO, 400MHz) 9.69 (1H, br s), 9.28 (1H, br s), 7.28-7.18(3H,m), 3.46 (1H, d, J 7.0), 3.30 (1H, dd, J 13.2, 7.5), 3.21 (2H, d,J 13.4), 3.02 (1H dd, J 15.7, 7.0), 2.89 (2H,m), 1.34 (3H, d, J 7.3).
