General procedure for the preparation of N-aryl sulfonamides

General procedure: A mixture of Pd(OAc)2 (5 mg, 0.02 mmol), aryl source (1 mmol), sulfonamide source (1.0 mmol), Cu(OAc)2 (9 mg, 0.05 mmol; in the presence of sulfonyl azides), and TBAA (2.0 mmol) in PEG-400 (3 g) was stirred for the appropriate time at 35-50°C under air. The crude reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc (5 mL) and a saturated NH4Cl solution (5 mL). The mixture was stirred for an additional 30 min and the layers were separated. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (6 mL × 3). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated under vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, hexane:EtOAc 1:3) to give the desired product. Spectral data for all compounds except 6c, 6f, and 6n have been reported in previous reports.[19,30,31]
