Steps:

3.1. Chlorin derivatives syntheses
The preparation of protoporphyrin IX dimethyl ester (PpIX) (7),described in Scheme 1, began with a process of elimination of twohydroxyl (-OH) groups of hematoporphyrin (Hp) (6). Then, anesterification in the presence of methanol and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)(5%)was performed maintaining the protection fromlight. The finalproduct 7 was obtained after solvent evaporation and a simplecrystallization from CHCl3:MeOH (1:3). Compound 7 was isolatedin 79% yield and characterised by 1H NMR and UV-Vis in order toconfirm its identity and purity.
