Steps:
Oxidation of Carnosol (2) or Rosmanol (3) with Ag2O.
General procedure: Freshly prepared Ag2O (2 eq) was added to a solution of carnosol (2) or rosmanol (3) in diethyl ether (5 mL). After being stirred for 2 h, the solution was filtered, the solvent was evaporated and the product was chromatographed over silica gel using CH2Cl2 as eluent to yield carnosol quinone (13) (93.5 %) or rosmaquinone (14) (99%) respectively.Carnosol quinone (13).
