Sodium pentanesulfonate can be used as an ion-associating reagent for high-performance liquid chromatography, including analysis of peptides and proteins.  It was prepared from 1-Chloropentane, copper and sodium sulfite in ethanol by stirring in water  refluxed for 40h at room temperature.
