Preparation Example 3-1 In a 500 mL reaction vessel, to 154 g of stearic acid chloride (0.51 mol) was added 153 g of sodium stearate (0.50 mol) over 30 minutes at 25°C with stirring. The mixture was then stirred for 2 hours at 90°C. The reaction mixture was filtered and crystallized by adding petroleum ether. The resultant crystals were filtered, washed, and dried under reduced pressure to give 198 g of stearic anhydride (0.36 mol) .
