Example 7; The inlet liner of a GC/MS (78 mm x 0.93 mm i.d.) was packed with MTB-4A catalyst (0.15 g). The liner was placed in the inlet port of the GC/MS and it was heated to 230 °C. Tetrahydrothiophene (1 ml, degassed) (sample) was placed in a vial equipped with a septum. The head space of the vial was vacuumed. A gas-tight syringe extracted headspace gasses (2 μ) which were injected into a GC/MS. Helium gas (8 psi) pushed the sample through the catalyst and into the GC column. The reaction was monitored by a mass detector produced 100% thiophene and hydrogen release.
